Preserving architectural heritage through education and engagement
Founded in Liverpool in 2019, leaf-vector emerged from a shared conviction that understanding architecture deepens our connection to culture, history, and place. What began as informal lectures in converted warehouse spaces has grown into a comprehensive educational platform serving learners across the United Kingdom and beyond.
Liverpool itself inspired our mission. A city where Georgian elegance meets Victorian industrial grandeur, where the Three Graces command the waterfront with Edwardian confidence—Liverpool demonstrates how architectural heritage shapes urban identity. We believe every European city tells similar stories through its buildings.
Our programmes translate scholarly research into accessible learning experiences, whether delivered in person at historic sites or through our digital platforms. We bridge the gap between academic knowledge and public appreciation.
Three principles guide everything we create
Every programme draws upon current scholarship and primary sources. Our instructors maintain active connections with universities, conservation bodies, and architectural practices across Europe. We present history as historians understand it, not as simplified myth.
Technical knowledge gains value when shared clearly. We translate architectural terminology, explain structural principles visually, and connect abstract concepts to buildings participants can visit and experience firsthand.
Buildings exist within social, economic, and cultural contexts. Our programmes explore why particular styles emerged when and where they did, how patronage shaped design, and what buildings reveal about the societies that created them.
Our instructors combine academic credentials with practical experience. Several have worked in architectural conservation; others have taught at university level. All share an ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and enthusiasm.
We collaborate with guest lecturers from institutions including the Royal Institute of British Architects, English Heritage, and university architecture departments throughout Europe. These partnerships ensure our programmes reflect the latest research and conservation thinking.
Administrative staff manage logistics, from arranging access to historic properties to coordinating travel for study tours. Their work ensures participants can focus entirely on learning.
leaf-vector operates as an educational services provider. Our revenue comes from programme fees paid by participants. We offer courses at various price points to accommodate different budgets and learning goals.
Premium study tours include travel, accommodation, and exclusive site access; these programmes carry higher fees reflecting their comprehensive nature. Online seminars and self-paced courses provide more affordable entry points for those beginning their architectural education.
We occasionally receive grants from heritage organisations to develop specific educational resources. These partnerships expand our reach without compromising editorial independence. All commercial relationships are disclosed where relevant.
